SALON
DU FIT
Art Exhibition
Opening
Reception With the Artist:
Sunday, July 18, 2004 (7-9 PM)
Both
the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public. This
July, the Bath House Cultural Center invites the public to
enjoy fine art in a comfortable, intimate and relaxing Salon
atmosphere. Salon du FIT, a special salon-style invitational
exhibition, features a wonderful variety of paintings, sculpture,
photographs,
assemblage art, glass and ceramics.
The
inspiration for this show comes from the Salon exhibitions
from the 1920's and 1930's, which were designed to be bohemian
audience retreats as well as places for discussion, discourse,
small performance pieces, workshops and coffee-talk. The art
was an important part in creating a whole atmosphere of artistic
exchange.
Rita
Barnard, a fine artist
and graphic designer from Dallas, co-curated this exhibition
along with Greg Stinson, also a visual artist from Dallas.
Both Ms. Barnard and Mr. Stinson have exhibited their artwork
extensively
in the Dallas region. The curators compiled a very diverse collection
of art from the Dallas art community and from other cities.
Many new and unseen talent will be represented as well as many
familiar artists.

Salon
du FIT will take place during the Bath House Cultural Center's
6th Annual Festival of Independent Theatres
(FIT).
FIT was created as an outlet for smaller companies without
a permanent performance space to give them an opportunity to
produce seldom seen, new, or avant-garde works. FIT exists
to promote awareness and growth of Dallas area theatre through
collaboration, participation and cultivation. Special
events during this year's FIT include children's entertainment,
the popular State of the Arts discussion, and the new Salon
du FIT where
the invitational exhibition and alternative theatre performances
and workshops will be presented.
