Fritz Lang's
"METROPOLIS"
The nation is divided along political
and class lines. There's talk of insurrection as disenfranchised
groups live in fear of harsh government policies. Rich, ivory
tower decision makers seem out of touch and unable or unwilling
to agree on what's best for the society they are supposed to
serve. Without wisdom and true compassion, all may be lost. .
.sound familiar?
"METROPOLIS" is a coming of age love story class struggle
action suspense thriller with science fiction, religious, philosphical
and socio-political overtones. In the 1980's, BL Lacerta fascinated
audiences at the Bathhouse, the DMA, SMU, UTD, even in Deep Ellum
with their silent movie scores. By far, the most popular movie
they played in those days was Fritz Lang's masterpiece "METROPOLIS".
These days, BL Lacerta is an artistic umbrella organization and
musical
collective, helping young artists find their legs while producing
multi-media events under the comatheatre banner. Splinter groups
populate a dozen local ensembles playing for coffee houses and
dance clubs.
The musical troupe consists of Kim Corbet (voice, trombone, keyboards
and electronics) and Bruce Richardson (percussion and electronics).
Lacerta's energy and stylistic diversity is a perfect accompaniment
for this complex and exciting classic film.
