BEARDSLEY LIVING THEATRE PRESENTS
SONNY DEREE’S LIFE FLASHES BEFORE HIS EYES

by Bill Bozzone
Directed by J. Michael Galgan

Sound design by Larry Hunnicutt, original music by Renée M. Johnson

Featuring Brenda Galgan, Scott Milligan and Chris Niedzwiecki

Sonny owes money. The hit man’s in a hurry. Can life get any worse? Yeah, mom shows up! The stakes are high and Mom has stacked the deck. Will he play the hand she deals or cash in his chips? The good, the bad, the ludicrous. Sonny’s life.

Bill Bozzone’s plays have been produced at The Ensemble Studio Theatre, Showtime’s Act One, Philadelphia Festival Theatre, Manhattan Punch Line, City Theatre of Pittsburgh and the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. As a screenwriter, he wrote the feature film, "Full Moon In Blue Water" and co-wrote the Ace nominated teleplay "The Last Elephant".

The playwright’s comments on "Sonny DeRee’s Life…": "My own mother was a lot like Emma. A real manipulator. It was pretty much just the two of us after my father died (I was eighteen), and I had no reason to believe she’d ever release her chokehold on me and let me have a separate life. She died of lung cancer three years later and I still remember the feeling of relief, the sense of absolute freedom, the realization that my life was mine to do with whatever I wished. I wanted Sonny to reach that same awareness by the end of this play, even though his mother --as healthy as a goat-- -will probably out-live us all."

Brenda and Michael Galgan are the Founders and Artistic Directors of the BLT/Beardsley Living Theatre and have been the Executive Producers of the FIT/Festival of Independent Theatres since its beginning in 1999.

The BLT is named in honor of Bonnie Beardsley who was the Galgans’ mentor at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Her insight and passion inspires the BLT to produce theatre that is vital, expressive and truly alive by mounting productions which explore the spiritual being having a human experience. The BLT strives to develop emerging playwrights and talent, while producing quality, affordable theatre and utilizing local theatrical artists.
