The Bath House Cultural Center will celebrate the Third Annual "May of the Americas" this year with a celebration of the fiery, passionate and diverse cultures of the American continents.


Most events, including the exhibit, are free.

May 11 Opening Reception for Primera Luz, 6 - 8 PM -FREE

Featuring a special performance by Carlos Guedes in concert, 8pm FREE

Virtuoso of the Venezuelan Harp, CARLOS GUEDES organically melds Brazilian, Afro-Caribbean, Cuban and North American influences into his one of a kind Jazz.


May 12 Cara Mia Theatre presents performances by members of CAST class
(Student Actors), 2 PM - FREE

Hosted by CARA MIA THEATRE, that strives to broaden the understanding and appreciation of Latino culture, CAST features both youth and adult talent in these acting and improvisation showcases.



MEXICO 2000 Ballet - 4 PM
(Ballet Folklorico by a White Rock neighborhood dance group)

Featuring the youngest "Junior" group of Mexico 2000 Folklorico Dance school, this performance will feature traditional dances from the diverse states of Mexico. Mexico 2000's main objective is to preserve and bring onto stage the most pure traditions of Mexico, Mexican history and the Mexican legacy.

VISION ANDINA in concert, 8 PM - FREE
(Music of the High Andes, featuring Pan Flutes and other native
instuments)
Music as universal as the human spirit, Vision Andina's amazing sound features bamboo flutes and panpipes, stringed instruments and unique percussion. Songs for dancing, songs for love and songs for the mind.
May 13 JAMAL MOHAMMED in concert, 8 PM - FREE
One of Dallas' premier musicians, Jamal has assembled a special group of musicians that will feature drumming, Jazz and World Music with an unforgettable Latin twist.
May 17 FOLKLORICO 2001 FESTIVAL Kick-Off Party, 6 PM - FREE
Dance rhythms that will get your heart pounding! This special preview/kickoff party for the 2001 Folklorico Fest , a stomping sell out last year, features dancers from Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil and Honduras on two stages!
May 19-20 LA NONA by Mario Cosa, presented by TEATRO ARGENTINO DALLAS, 7:30 PM (Sat), 3:00 PM (Sun) - $8 Teatro Argentino members; $10 non-members
La Nona's voracious appetite drives her family to ruin. Performed in Spanish. Appropriate for the whole family.

May 23 CARA MIA THEATRE presents performances by members of CAST class
(Adult Students) - FREE

May 24 DALLAS STORYTELLERS GUILD presents Stories of the Americas
Mexican Legends, American Folklore and even the Lady of the Lake will be featured in this delightful evening of storytelling for the whole family.
May 25 LATINA LITERATURE - Tammy Gomez, Barbara Gonzalez & Adelina Anthony
A fiery evening of poetry and performance art from three of Texas' most provocative Latina writers: featuring the challenging Chicano performance poetry of Austin's Tammy Gomez, the distinguished commentary and passionate insight of National Public Radio and San Antonio News columnist Barbara Gonzales, and new works from (formerly) Dallas actress/director and founder of Cara Mia Theatre Company Adelina Anthony.

Recommended for mature audiences only. FREE

Come join in an all day celebration of the rich history, culture and art of the American Continents.

Special free children's recital of Mexican dances.


LEGENDS ALIVE! Cuentos Mexicanos 2pm
(Kids event presented by Cara Mia Theatre)
Legends Alive is a unique exploration of Latin-American legends through interactive storytelling and original music by classical guitarists David Tercero and Armando Monsavais. Appropriate for all ages. Performed in English and Spanish.
Mexico 2000 Ballet, 4 PM
(Ballet Folklorico by a White Rock neighborhood dance group)
This performance, by the Professional group of Mexico 2000, features award winning dances including "Los Aztecas" and the premier of "Danza de los Viejitos" (The old men dance)
